My Go-to Snacks

I have an intolerance to gluten and dairy. It’s the struggle I deal with everyday. I always have to look up a menu to see if they cater to see if they cater to those of us who suffer from this. I crave ice cream all the time but settle for sorbet. During college it’s not easy finding snacks unless it’s banana and peanut butter. However, at home, I have an abundance of them. Here are my top four favorites and how to make them!

Cucumbers and Hummus

Okay, so this one is pretty self explanatory. The thing that I love about this is that it’s easy to transport and pack the night before. You can throw your hummus in a container (or a zip-lock bag) and your veggies in another! I personally love cucumbers, but in reality, hummus tastes good on just about everything.

Berries + Turkey + String Cheese

Okay, so I have a LITTLE bit of dairy in this one. The string cheese doesn’t bother me like a scoop of ice cream would. This one is my favorite because it has the perfect balance of food. I have protein in my meat, the vitamins in my berries, and the calcium in my cheese. The best part about this snack is all the food seems to pair together perfectly. Highly recommend this one!

Smoothies

If you follow me on any form of social media, you know I love smoothies. They are my favorite! Here are my two favorite smoothie recipes.

Banana and Berry

Ice

Almond milk

1 banana

(any kind of berry)

Raspberries

Blueberries

Banana and Peanut Butter

Ice

Almond milk

1 banana

Scoop of peanut butter

A little bit of honey

Dash of cinnamon

I love smoothies because I can add all my favorite foods and drink them! Another reason I love them is because you can add seeds or if you are like me, benefiber.

Banana Sushi

As you can see, I love bananas. This one is my favorite because you can take bananas and peanut butter to a whole new level! This is how I make it:

Heat up 1.5 tablespoon of peanut butter

Cut your banana into slices

When your peanut butter is creamy and melted, pour it on your banana

Add in some chopped nuts

Sprinkle cinnamon on top

Ta-da! The cutest banana sushi you have ever seen. One of the reasons I love this dish is because it makes me feel like I can cook. It’s super fun making your food look pretty!

All of these ingredients are super affordable and can be found in a Meijer, Target, Walmart, etc. If you decide to make one of these dishes, tag me in it! I would love to see your creative eye and how you made these snacks into your own! These are fun staple foods that can go a long way in the kitchen.
